Health and Safety Advisor - multiple site responsibility

Greater London (covering branches within M25)

Since opening its doors in Darlington over 35 years ago Northgate Vehicle Hire has grown a network of more than 70 branches spreading across the UK from Aberdeen down to Plymouth.  With growth comes opportunity!

We are seeking a health and safety professional with experience of managing the Health, Safety and Environment across multiple sites or departments.

The role

Providing Health & Safety support to our branches located within the M25 there will be plenty of variety during your working week!  Reporting into the Head of Group Safety and Environment you’ll be utilising your health and safety knowledge to provide valuable advice both 'on the ground' and through reporting.

Activities will include:

  • site inspections and risk assessments
  • site audits
  • identifying areas for improvement
  • incident investigation and preventative measures
  • producing H&S documentation and the upkeep of H&S records
  • ensuring compliance with SHE policy and procedures
  • providing practical H&S advice on the ground during site visits
  • identification of training needs, implementing and conducting training where necessary

Skills requirements

Minimum NEBOSH General Certificate with post qualification experience within a Health & Safety specific role is essential.  Committed to further personal development, you may have already achieved further qualifications or be working towards Chartered status.

Health &Safety experience across multiple sites or departments  is important  as the relationships you build and the training and advice that you deliver will require a confident, flexible communication style and approach.

A full driving licence is essential as you will be travelling within your region.  There will be times when flexibility around your hours will be required, it won’t be one sided though, we can be flexible too and as you’ll be working autonomously you will be in charge of planning and prioritizing your travel and activities

You’ll be using your Health & Safety knowledge, initiative and practical approach to resolve issues and your ability to connect with your audience to instill confidence and commitment to ensure a ‘safe working’ culture.
