DHL Global Forwarding UK are looking for a Customs Manager to lead their small customs team based at their high-profile client’s office in Walsall. This is a remarkable opportunity to join one of the world’s largest freight forwarding companies with an exceptional reputation globally.


We provide a competitive salary of £35,000 to £40,000 based on experience, and access to an extensive range of DHL company benefits. This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pm, with a “hybrid” arrangement of working in the office and from home.


Your role as a Customs Manager

Reporting to the Customs Account Manager, you will be operationally responsible for managing Customs warehousing on site with our client. You will be a confident leader, focusing on the continuous development of the team (team of 2-3 DHL customs staff), ensuring standards and legal requirements are being followed. As you will be based on site with the client, it is crucial to maintain excellent working relationships, keeping abreast of all changes and legislations.

There are three key areas to being a successful Customs Manager:

  • Customer Focused: Being main point of any customer needs and requirements, handling any serious customer complaints and promoting our service
  • People Management: Leading the team by example and providing exceptional people management skills, including, 121s, performance reviews etc
  • Commercially Orientated: Overseeing financial and operational performance, ensuring invoicing is completed on time and providing weekly/monthly reporting to support internal and customer requirements

Other duties will include, ensuring all customs warehouse files are being updated or maintained for imports, exports, transit, CFSP and other customs activities.


About you – you will need

  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of successfully managing and developing others
  • Extensive experience in a Freight Forwarding Customs environment or similar
  • Exceptional customer rapport building skills with strong communication with your team and external stakeholders
  • To be process driven with great attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of compliance
  • Strong knowledge of customs warehouse processes advantageous
