What is Metal Additive Manufacturing?

Additive Manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, is the process of using advanced technology to deposit thin layers of metal powder combined with thermal lasers to selectively consolidate the material into a solid. This creates parts/components that can be more complex in design and lighter in weight than the traditional subtractive technologies, where material is removed or shaped.

  • At the same time, you’ll have technical interaction with the customers ensuring components are optimised for the AM process

  • Using your previous design software knowledge, you will schedule builds using Magics software, ensuring lead-times are met. You may need to operate the 3D printers from time to time
  • You will support customer development projects, maintaining a good working relationship with Operations/Production
  • You will assist and advise on the introduction of new products, making modifications to existing products and processes if necessary
  • You will make points of contact with external representatives including suppliers, consultants and controlling authorities within guidelines set by relevant departments e.g. Commercial or Engineering
  • Understanding the AM market is crucial as you will be encouraged to make recommendations for improvements on equipment and processes

You will need:

  • Experience using the Solid-works platform
  • Experience in Manufacturing Engineering, understanding processes and design
  • A good understanding of current manufacturing techniques and Design for Manufacture
  • Knowledge using Materialise Magics (or similar 3D printing software) would be beneficial but not essential as full training will be provided
