Location: Shrewsbury
Salary: £Competitive 
Hours: 8am – 10pm / 173 hours per month 

Shifts: 2 – 3 shifts per week / 1 sleep in per week. 3 out of 8 weekend days /month. Child-centred approach which means rostered shifts vary week to week – provided 1 month in advance.

Are you, or could you be a caring, patient, and supportive Residential Support Worker, ready to help change children’s lives for the better?  

If so, you’ll be providing the very best care for our young people with learning disabilities, who are verbal/ non-verbal and with who have associated medical needs.  We will give you full training to be able to do your job and excel as a valued part of our business as well providing a clear and tailored career pathway.

What You’ll do 

  • Alwaysact  inaccordance with statutory safeguarding guidance, including Working Together to Safeguard Children and Keeping Children Safe in Education
  • Identify and respond to signs of distress, abuse, neglect or harm, and report concerns in line with the home’s safeguarding procedures
  • Build trusting relationships with children that are underpinned by clear boundaries and a strong safeguarding ethos
  • Ensuring that each young person’s care plan is followed and amended as appropriate to reflect their changing needs
  • Attending topractical matters in relation to childcare (meal preparation, cleaning, general maintenance around thehome,keeping the home safe andsecure, etc.) 
  • Provide support for young people in their education and extracurricular activities, this may include supporting them in the classroom if necessary
  • Empower young people and facilitate their active involvement in the decision making about their lives and future
  • Willing to give and receive feedback on performance to/from colleagues and managers

 

What you’ll bring

What You’ll need 

  • Ideally a level 3 or 4diplomain Residential Carebut itisn’tessentialas we willfully fundthis qualification – it is a requirement to beattainedwithin 2 years.
  • A desire to help othersand a genuinereason whyyou think you can provide outstanding care and support
  • If you haveexperienceofsupporting young people with learning disabilitiesthat would be great – but this may be a whole new career for you sodon’tworry if youhaven’t.
  • Philosophy that only the best is good enough when it comes to the children in our care
  • Perhaps you’llhave experienceinchildren’s educational setting, have family memberswith needs,a background helping and supportingothersor a deep sense of wanting to.
  • A driving license is heavily preferred, but if you don’t have one, don’t let that put you off from applying. 
  • The role is also subject to an enhanced DBS check.
