Residential Support Worker



Location: Shrewsbury

Salary: Up to £13.70 per hour (dependant on experience)

Hours: 173 hours per month

Shifts:

  • 8am – 10pm
  • 2 – 3 shifts per week
  • 1 sleep-in per week (additional payment)
  • 3 out of 8 weekend days per month
  • Child-centred rota (issued one month in advance)

The Role


As a Residential Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting children and young people with learning disabilities, who may be verbal or non-verbal and may have associated medical needs.


You will help create a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where young people can thrive emotionally, socially, and developmentally. Full training is provided, along with a clear and personalised career pathway.



Key Responsibilities

  • Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance and organisational policies
  • Recognise and report concerns relating to safeguarding, wellbeing, or risk
  • Build positive, professional relationships with young people
  • Follow and review individual care plans to meet changing needs
  • Support daily routines including meals, household tasks, and maintaining a safe home
  • Support education and extracurricular activities, including classroom support where required
  • Encourage independence and involve young people in decisions about their lives
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive team culture

  • Willingness to learn and develop within the role


Experience and Qualifications:

  • Level 3 or 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (desirable but not essential)
  • All required qualifications are fully funded and must be achieved within 2 years
  • Previous experience with learning disabilities is welcome but not required
  • A driving licence is strongly preferred but not essential
  • Subject to an enhanced DBS check
