Residential Support Worker – Waking Nights - Children  

Location: Shrewsbury
Salary: £Competitive 
Hours: 10pm – 8am 

Shifts: 4 consecutive nights

Are you, or could you be a caring, patient, and supportive Residential Support Worker, ready to help change children’s lives for the better?  

If so, you’ll be providing the very best care for our young people with learning disabilities, who are verbal/ non-verbal and who have associated medical needs.  We will give you full training to be able to do your job and excel as a valued part of our business as well providing a clear and tailored career pathway.

What You’ll do 

  • Remain awake for the entirety of the waking night shift; ensure you achieve sufficient sleep outside of your working hours, so you are fit and safe for waking night duty
  • Build trusting, professional relationships with children that are underpinned by clear boundaries and a strong safeguarding ethos
  • Help young people settle down for sleep, supporting them in accordance with their care plan and risk assessments
  • Establish positive, appropriate relationships with young people, so they feel safe, secure and free from harm; always show them unconditional positive regard and nurture
  • Administer medications (all training will be provided) 
  • In someinstances,provide personal care – this doesn’t apply to all roles 
  • Empower young people and facilitate their active involvement in thedecision-makingprocess regarding their lives and future
  • Attend to practical matters in relation to childcare (for example food preparation, cleaning up, keeping the home secure during the nighttime shift) 
  • Be vigilant to the security of the premises at night; ensure all doors and windows are locked. 
  • Provide support on a 1:1 basis as appropriate to enable young people to address past and present difficulties
  • Attend and contribute to regular supervision sessions with your manager, according to company policy; positively receiving feedback to grow in your role

 

 

What you’ll bring  

We’re looking for an individual who is nurturing and resilient with unwavering commitment to quality and the best possible outcomes for our children. 

 

What You’ll need 

  • Ideally a level 3 or 4diplomain Residential Carebut itisn’tessential as we will fully fund this qualification – it is a requirement to beattainedwithin 2 years.
  • A desire to help others and a genuinereason whyyou think you can provide outstanding care and support
  • If you haveexperienceofsupporting young people with learning disabilitiesthat would be great – but this may be a whole new career for you sodon’tworry if youhaven’t.
  • Philosophy that only the best is good enough when it comes to the children in our care
  • Perhaps you’llhave experience in children’s educational setting, have family members with needs, a background helping and supporting others or a deep sense of wanting to.
  • A driving license is heavily preferred, but if you don’t have one, don’t let that put you off from applying.  The role is also subject to an enhanced DBS check.
