Location: Shrewsbury

Salary: Up to £14.40 per hour (dependant on experience)

Hours: 10pm - 8am

Shifts:

  • 4 consecutive nights

The Role


As a Residential Support Worker (Waking Nights), you will support children and young people with learning disabilities, who may be verbal or non-verbal and may have associated medical needs.


You’ll help ensure the home remains safe, calm, and well-managed throughout the night, supporting young people in line with their care plans and risk assessments. Full training is provided, alongside a clear and personalised career pathway to help you grow and succeed.

Key Responsibilities


  • Remain awake and alert for the full duration of the waking night shift
  • Support young people to settle and sleep in line with individual care plans
  • Build positive, professional relationships underpinned by strong safeguarding practice
  • Maintain a safe, secure environment throughout the night
  • Administer medication (full training provided)
  • Provide personal care where required (role dependent)
  • Support young people on a 1:1 basis where appropriate
  • Encourage independence and involve young people in decisions about their lives
  • Complete practical household tasks such as food preparation, cleaning, and securing the home 
  • Attend regular supervision sessions and engage positively with feedback

Experience and Qualifications:


  • Level 3 or 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (desirable but not essential)
  • All required qualifications are fully funded and must be achieved within 2 years
  • Experience supporting children with learning disabilities is welcomed, but not required
  • A driving licence is strongly preferred but not essential
  • Subject to an enhanced DBS check
