Westbury School is a part of a passionate, well respected, and forward-thinking social care company, Unique Care Group.

We are an independent specialist school providing high-quality, therapeutic and child-centred education to pupils from 11 to 18 years of age in Westbury, Shrewsbury. Our children come from a wide range of backgrounds, but all have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties, Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), and many will have also suffered significant trauma and adverse childhood experiences and may have social care involvement.


Our school is nestled in a peaceful setting with access to a large playground and spacious classrooms. We also have access to our partner site which consists of 33 acres of land, to include an extensive forestry site, animal rescue centre, Shetland ponies, rescue hens and baby goats. We are fortunate to have a friendly and hardworking multi-skilled team of teaching staff and teaching assistants who are dedicated to the needs of our pupils.


As such, we are seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic therapeutic teacher to join our growing school team. This is an ideal role for those who genuinely have a passion for helping children, particularly with learning difficulties and disabilities.

  • Strong verbal and communication skills appropriate to the need to communicate effectively with a wide range of pupils, colleagues, parents and professionals.
  • You will develop and implement lesson plans, assess student progress, and provide guidance and support to help students achieve their educational goals.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and accredited outcomes
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment
  • Provide instruction in various subjects, adapting teaching methods to meet the needs of individual students
  • Assess student progress
  • Provide constructive feedback to students to support their growth and development
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and enhance curriculum materials


Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
  • Teaching certification QTS or QTLS
  • Previous experience working as a SEND Teacher desirable
  • Strong knowledge of subject matter and curriculum standards
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
