A different kind of legal career – high-value work, a manageable caseload, and a team that truly supports you.

We’re offering a rare opportunity for an experienced Solicitor with military claims or personal injury expertise to join Simpson Millar’s Military Department on a part-time basis, with the flexibility to fit work around your life—not the other way around.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a close-knit, collaborative team and wants to focus on complex, meaningful work without overwhelming caseloads. You'll be based remotely with just one day per month in our Manchester office, making this an ideal setup for someone looking for autonomy, balance, and impact.

The Role:

As a key member of our Military team, you’ll:

  • Develop and manage a varied caseload of high-value military personal injury matters, including Employers' Liability, Clinical Negligence, NFCI, and bullying/harassment claims.
  • Conduct your own advocacy, where appropriate, and represent clients with compassion and precision.
  • Handle cases from instruction to settlement, including quantum assessments, medical evidence review, Part 36 negotiations, and instructing counsel.
  • Use your initiative to develop referral networks and support the growth of our Military department.
  • Work with our case management system, meet file management standards, and comply with all regulatory procedures (AML, GDPR, etc.).
  • Collaborate with senior colleagues to ensure the department maintains the highest levels of client care and professional excellence.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Minimum 4 years’ PQE, ideally with a background in military claims, though experience in serious PI or Clinical Negligence will also be considered.
  • A solid grasp of the Civil Procedure Rules and familiarity with legal documentation and advocacy.
  • Proactive mindset with excellent business development and client relationship skills.
  • Ability to manage time and caseloads independently while contributing to a team-first environment.
  • Strong IT proficiency and comfort working with case management systems.
  • A genuine interest in making a difference for military clients and holding negligent organisations to account.
