Job Type: Fixed Term Contract until the end December 2024

Salary: Up to £55,000 per annum (DOE) plus a £3,000 retention bonus upon completing the contract, as well as an on-target bonus

We are recruiting for an experienced Solicitor/Litigation Executive to join our Dispute Resolution department on a fixed-term basis, acting on behalf of claimants in professional negligence claims.

The solicitor will be responsible for managing a caseload of professional negligence claims with paralegal support and will be responsible for their own advocacy (where appropriate) and drafting court proceedings. The role will contribute to the overall strategy for the case stock and be responsible for setting individual case plans within the overall strategy.

The role will ensure the delivery of high-quality legal services to clients, ensuring that all processes and procedures are being adhered to and key performance indicators are being met/ exceeded.

This role will promote the professional development of junior colleagues by providing coaching and mentoring on specific cases and expose them to matters that test their abilities in a controlled environment whilst also encouraging team members to pursue professional certifications and other forms of continuing education.

As a dispute resolution Solicitor, you will be responsible for the following:

Case Management: The solicitor is responsible for managing a caseload of litigated professional negligence claims ensuring that processes and procedures are adhered to and cases are managed efficiently and proportionately.

Leadership: The solicitor is responsible for providing technical guidance to junior members of the team. This includes establishing work priorities with clear guidance and instruction and providing regular feedback and coaching to team members.

Managing Risks & Ensuring Compliance: The solicitor is responsible for identifying and managing legal and business risks associated with their caseload. This includes ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements through file reviews and technical clinics, managing conflicts of interest, and addressing ethical issues as they arise.

Professional development: The solicitor is responsible for promoting the professional development of their paralegal support. This includes identifying training and development needs. They will provide coaching and mentoring on specific cases and expose them to matters that test their abilities in a controlled environment whilst also encouraging team members to pursue professional certifications and other forms of continuing education.

Promoting teamwork and collaboration: The solicitor is responsible for promoting a culture of teamwork and collaboration within the legal team. This includes fostering open communication, encouraging knowledge sharing, and promoting a sense of shared responsibility for achieving team goals.

You will have the following experience :
  • Strong knowledge of civil litigation procedure, preferably within a dispute resolution function.
  • Previous supervision experience preferred.
  • An ability to deal with clients in a sensitive, professional and competent way.
  • An ability to work on your own initiative within a team environment to achieve results.
  • Excellent IT skills, which include the ability to work with a case management system and databases.
  • Have empathy and good listening skills.
  • A friendly, co-operative and collaborative approach to clients and colleagues.
