Simpson Millar is a leading firm in Public Law work with offices throughout the country. Our public law department covers a number of areas of work including matters relating to children, education, health, human rights, and Court of Protection proceedings.

We are inviting qualified lawyers to join our Bristol team to work with our Child Care Proceedings department, specialising in public law children matters. You will have an opportunity to be involved in both fee earning and business development. The opportunity allows for both home and office working.

We are looking for a candidate with a caring and enthusiastic personality, a warm client care manner and the ability and willingness to actively promote the profile of our team.

Ideally, you will have a background in advocacy, will work well in a team and in supporting other junior colleagues.

As a Child Care Solicitor, you will develop and run a caseload of Children Act matters.

Role to include:

  • Knowledge of Children and Family Law Acts and family court procedure
  • Good advocacy skills
  • Developing local ties to secure referrals
  • Participation in the development, marketing and success of the department
  • Working with the firm’s case management system and other office IT systems;
  • Compliance with the firm’s Money Laundering Procedures;
  • Compliance with GDPR

Person Specification:

  • Strong interpersonal and client care skills
  • Interest in becoming Children Panel accredited/re-accredited
  • Experience and interest in court advocacy
  • Knowledge of legal aid guidelines and application procedures
  • Good business development skills and interest in developing links with potential referral organisations   
  • Good IT, time-management and organisational skills
